ICON (ICX) Project: How to Open an ICONex Mobile Wallet
ICONex Mobile Wallet
The ICONex mobile wallet lets users hold ICX tokens in a personal wallet (i.e., a wallet owned by YOU, not a centralized exchange), that also supports staking + voting (allowing ICONists the ability to earn staking rewards, which we will discuss in a future article).
To download ICONex wallet on your smartphone, you can do so via the following links.

Create Wallet
1) Once ICONex is installed onto your smartphone, open up the app and select “Create Wallet”.
2) Assuming our intentions are to use the new ICONex wallet to store ICX tokens, the next step is to select “ICX Wallet” and then hit the “Next” button.
3) You can name your personal wallet anything you want under “Wallet name” and you can protect the wallet with a secret “password” that only you know.
Please note: There is ABSOLUTELY NO REASON why you should ever disclose the password to your ICONex personal wallet with anyone!
Type in the password again in the “Confirm password” field and and click the “Next” button to continue.
4) Please download the keystore file to your ICONex personal wallet by clicking “Download wallet Keystore files”.
Please note: The keystore file is extremely important! It lets you recover/retrieve your ICONex personal wallet using another smartphone (e.g., in case you ever lose/replace your current smartphone), or access your ICONex personal wallet using your desktop (e.g., Mac or PC), at ANYTIME (provided you also remember your password!).
Make sure to backup your keystore file (e.g., external USB flash drive) and store it somewhere safe (preferably offline so it can’t get hacked by anyone).
Don’t forget the password you just set either! If you think you might forget it, better err on the side of caution and back that up too!
Press the “Confirm” button to proceed.
5) You can choose where to store the keystore file on your phone.
The default keystore file name will look something similar to the following:
6) ICONex will let you know once your keystore file has been saved. Press the “Confirm” button to acknowledge.
Then, press the “Next” button to proceed.
7) Lastly, you will want to make sure to also backup your private key (in addition to the keystore file).
Please note: The private key acts like a “master key” and is arguably even more important than your keystore file (while the keystore file still requires you to remember your password in order to gain access your ICONex wallet, the private key does not!).
Your private key is a unique string of 64 characters that lets ANYONE gain *DIRECT ACCESS* to your ICONex personal wallet (i.e., your funds/tokens), which is why you should NEVER disclose this most sensitive information to ANYONE!
If someone wants to send you ICX tokens (we will cover this in a later section of this article), they do NOT need to know your private key in order to do so.
Again, only YOU need to know your private key!
To backup your private key, you can click the “Copy private key” button.
You can now paste your private key into a text file (or any type of file), wherever you want it to be saved.
Please note: If possible, similar to the keystore file, it makes the most sense to backup your private key by storing it somewhere safe + offline so that it can’t be hacked by anyone.
Alternatively, you can also backup your private key by clicking the “Private key information” button.
Using this method, you can screen capture your private key QR code, instead.

8) Welcome to your newly created ICONex personal wallet!
You are now ready to receive ICX tokens!
Receiving ICX Tokens
To deposit/receive ICX tokens into your ICONex personal wallet, you will need to know your public key.
Please note: Unlike your private key (which again, you should NEVER share with anyone!), your public key is meant to be shared with other people.
Anyone who knows your public key can only send you ICX tokens, but they cannot withdraw any ICX tokens from your personal wallet.
However, also keep in mind, if someone knows your public key, they can view all your past transactions history (this is the inherent nature of all public blockchains, such as ICON network).
So, if you want someone to send you ICX tokens but you don’t want them to view your wallet’s history, simply create a new (blank) wallet, and give them the public key to the latter, instead.
There is no limit to how many personal wallets you can own/create.
1) Click the QR Code icon on the home page of your ICONex personal wallet.
A string of 42 characters will be displayed, beginning with “hx”.
2) You can either scan the QR code or click on “Copy Address” to get your public key information.
Pass the above information along to whichever party needs it to send you ICX tokens.
3) For example, let’s say Icon Pilipinas wanted to send 10 ICX tokens to the “example” wallet we created in this article — The public key (shown above) would be inputted into the “Receiving Address” section of the transfer.
4) Once the transaction is complete, the new balance will be reflected in the ICONex personal wallet home page.
As you can see from the image below, it now shows an ICX token balance of 10 (which was valued at $2.63 USD at the time of writing).
